WILDERNESS SURVIVAL + LEADERSHIP: WILD EDIBLES & MEDICINALS

Great for survivalists and enironmentalists, along with food, health and wellness enthusiasts. In this focussed workshop, students learn about the inherent value of local resources for food and medicine. Participants will explore the different flavors, textures, and uses of wild edibles and medicinals for culinary, nutritional and medicinal functions. Learn about invasive and native species, how & which parts to use, how to prepare safely, ethical harvesting/foraging, and tips for identification. Learn some of the ways we can incorporate wild plants into recipe development and as emergency food and medicine, while geting the opportunity to prepare a meal or product using what is local. Workshop and plants explored will vary depending on season and location.

Duration: 3-4 hours

Students will engage in discussion around various survival skills while partaking in activities that transfer these skills into practice. Depending on the location, topics and activities may involve shelter building, traditional fire lighting (fire by friction and the use of bow drills), water (including primitive water filters, purification methods, and or tracking water and springs); what to do if you are lost and  stuck out overnight and more. We will do our best to accommodate requests for additional topics.

WILDERNESS SURVIVAL +LEADERSHIP: STANDARD

WILDERNESS SURVIVAL + LEADERSHIP: DUO

If you cannot decide between wild edibles/medicinals and standard survival skills, and would like a little bit of everything, this workshop is for you! This program will focus on the sacred order of survival: Shelter, water, fire, food.   Depending on the location and the time, students will have the opportunity to partake in various activities in groups or using demos. Teachers can select workshop activities they prefer whether it be fire making, creating a food or medicinal product, or other. We will work to tailor this workshop to your  preference.

Duration: 1 Full School Day
